Fire Prevention & Plan Review Services

The Inverness Fire Protection District contracts with an outside firm to provide fire prevention services, including plan reviews for new construction, renovations, and fire protection systems.

Submission Process

Contractors, developers, and homeowners requiring plan review services should submit plans directly to FSCI.

  • All review fees are paid directly to FSCI at the time of submission.
  • FSCI conducts the review in accordance with applicable fire codes and standards.
  • Upon completion, FSCI will notify the Inverness Fire Protection District, as the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), of the approval or denial of the submitted plans.

After Approval

Once you have been notified by FSCI that your plans have received final approval, you may contact the Inverness Fire Protection District administrative office to request the official approval letter issued by the Fire Chief.

Important Notes

  • The District does not accept plan review submissions directly.
  • The District relies on FSCI’s review and recommendation for all fire prevention plan approvals.
  • Questions regarding plan review status, requirements, or fees should be directed to FSCI using the contact information above.

Final Inspections / Fire Protection System Testing

The Inverness Fire Protection District also contracts with FSCI – Fire Safety Consultants, Inc. to perform certain fire protection system inspections.

When a project requires a final fire protection inspection for occupancy approval:

  • FSCI conducts the inspection on behalf of the District
  • This may include observation of:
    • Fire sprinkler system testing
    • Alarm system verification
    • Other fire suppression system requirements, as applicable
  • FSCI will document the results of the inspection and report findings to the Inverness Fire Protection District

Scheduling Inspections

Inspections required for fire protection systems should be coordinated directly with FSCI using the contact information listed above.

Residential Fire Sprinkler Waiver Requests 

In certain residential situations, the Inverness Fire Protection District may grant a waiver from the requirement to install a fire sprinkler system.

Eligibility Criteria

A waiver may be considered if:

  • The project does not increase the building footprint, and
  • The work involves less than 50% of the existing structure

All waiver requests are subject to review and approval by the Fire Chief.

Homeowners requesting a waiver should submit the following information via email:

  • Property address
  • Homeowner name
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Project blueprints/plans
  • A written letter outlining the scope of the project
