The Inverness Fire Protection District is currently accepting applications for the position of Firefighters/Paramedic. Testing is being conducted to fill one (1) open full-time Firefighter/Paramedic vacancy and will also be used to establish an Eligibility List for future available positions.

Salary Range Information
- effective January 1, 2025: $78,079 - $113,992 (5 years to top pay)
- effective January 1, 2026: $80,422 - $117,412

Applicant Qualifications:
· Applicants must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and under thirty-five (35) years of age at the time of certification to an eligibility list for original appointment unless otherwise provided by state or federal law. Proof of date of birth will be required.
· Applicants for examination must be citizens of the United States.
· Must have a certified high school transcript or evidence of a G.E.D. equivalence diploma.
· Must have a valid driver's license both at the time of the application and the time of appointment.
· Must have the ability to understand the English language, written and spoken.
· Must be a licensed EMT-P through the Illinois Department of Public Health at time of conditional offer of employment.
· If hired, all candidates must become a certified Basic Operations Firefighter in the State of Illinois within six (6) months of employment.
· Must be able to pass a written test, Candidate Physical Agility Test, a background check, and an oral interview with the Board of Fire Commissioners.
· Must be able to pass a complete medical examination, including comprehensive drug testing, a psychological exam, and a security investigation at time of conditional offer of employment.
· Shift work is typically 24 hours on, 48 hours off, 0700 hours to 0700 hours; as scheduled without regard for Holidays.
Starting salary is $78,079.78, raised to $81,338.28 after 6 months.

· Candidates are required to take the FireTEAM exam along with completing the Public Safety Self Assessment (PSSA) and Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ). All applications, tests, and documents must be submitted no later than August 1, 2025 on the National Testing Network site. The cost for this is $65.00.
· The application process requires that at the time the application is submitted, the individual has completed the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT), including the optional ladder climb, with attainment date no earlier than one (1) year prior to the application deadline. Testing can be done through any facility that is licensed to conduct the CPAT.

Prospective applicants should note that the registration deadline for the CPAT may be several weeks prior to the event.

Selection Process:
Each phase of the process is pass/fail and required to proceed to the next. Candidates must authorize and empower the Board and its agents to conduct a background investigation. Candidates who successfully pass the written exam will be invited to participate in an on-site interview with the Board of Fire Commissioners.

An eligibility list of applicants will be established in numerical order based on a minimum passing score on the written exam, plus any preference points (if applicable). The Eligibility List is valid for a period of two years from the date of certification or until the list is exhausted. Further participation in our process will take place as vacancies occur. Applicants will be invited, in rank order, to participate in and successfully advance through the following steps:
- Post-offer drug screening
- Post-offer physical and stress test
- Post-offer psychological testing
- All appointments are subject to a probationary period.
All portions of the testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.
